Tiramisu Recipe
I started making this tiramisu recipe many years ago and it has become a family tradition at Christmas time. It is not as difficult as you might think and it is great to make the day before so the flavors really have time to shine through - perfect for entertaining!
Tiramisu
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- 12 Tblsp sugar
- 500 g mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate
- a pinch of salt
- 10 Tblsp marsala wine
- 2 cups prepared espresso
- 48 lady fingers - make sure you get the hard ones, not the soft, bread-like kind
Directions:
Place 2 eggs and 2 egg yolks in a mixer bowl. Add 8 Tblsp sugar and whisk until ribbons form. Whisk in mascarpone.
In a separate bowl whip the cream with 2 Tblsp sugar and a pinch of salt until hard peaks form.
Add whipped cream to cheese mixture and beat until smooth, adding 2 Tblsp marsala.
Pour the espresso into a shallow dish and add 2 Tblsp sugar and 8 Tblsp marsala. Dip each lady finger QUICKLY into the espresso and line them on the bottom of a 9 x 13 dish. Top with half of the cream mixture, another layer of dipped lady fingers and the remaining cream mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 to 10 hours. Cover with grated chocolate just before serving.
When I first started making this I used to have to go to a specialty Italian market to find some of the ingredients. Now I can find them all in my local grocery store. I hope you will try this recipe!
