Recalling New Year's Eve

I recall a New Year Eve when I was just home from the hospital having had emergency surgery for gallbladder removal.
I had a 2 year old little girl at the time who was doing her best to learn the potty rules. After a diaper rash, I put her in an old fashioned cloth diaper so that she could understand "wet."
My friend dropped by to show me the most expensive dress she had ever bought for a party. She and her husband were on their way to their event.
Right then, at the front door, my daughter decided to let loose and urinated all through the diaper and onto the floor making a loud splashing noise. There was no way to pretend it didn't happen...and just as my friend was going to pick her up to say hello as well! Had she done so, her beautiful black cocktail dress would have been ruined.
Needless to say I was mortified and since I had just had surgery I couldn't lift my daughter to remove her from the embarrassing moment.
My friend elegantly excused herself and off to the party they went. My daughter and I went off to the potty.
Life lesson - recovering from surgery and potty training don't mix! Had I been more organized, I would have made sure that I had Pull-ups or rubber pants on hand to avoid this kind of disaster.
