I need help!

I have 3 Children, two teenagers and a 6 year old and my house is EMBARRASSING.

Our house is always clean to walk into but don't dare let anyone open a door ..... I have room for storage but no organizational skills. I feel myself slowly getting depressed and always opening doors and praying to myself that someone is going to walk through the door and save me.

I watch these TV shows and Oprah, the queen of clean, and get teary. I need help but I don't have much to spend at the end of a budget. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm tired of being embarrassed!

I know your pain. I'm just the opposite in the lack of organization. I'm embarrassed by my house. The closets are neat, but there's a lot that hasn't been put away. I live alone and am the only one to blame. However...I'm making progress. Just pick a closet and start. I've read a lot of tips online and in books. These seem to be helping me:

1. Start small in one area. Then move on.

2. Set a timer...15 min., 30 min. Whatever. Then walk away and come back after a break if you can.

3. Get the kids to help. Teens and 6 year olds CAN help. My sister uses her kids to help organize (6 & 8). The little one loves to help and loves the praise.

4. Be brutal and make quick decisions. Try to get away from the sentiments and think how wonderful it will be to have clean closets. Picture it in your mind or post a picture of a clean closet you've seen on the wall until you achieve that goal.

5. Get a friend to help. They won't have the sentiments attached to your stuff and can help you rationalize what to keep or not to keep.

6. Don't beat yourself up. We're all human and life is too short to stress about closets. It'll happen. Just make goals and take it as slow as you have to.
