Organizing Stuff

We go to garage sales and always seem to bring home a car load. Now where do I put all this?? I do not buy ANYTHING new, except food and paper goods. So I really NEED to go to garage sales. I get really great buys. BUT I cannot stay organized. Help!

Organizing Garage Sale Finds

Garage sales are great! You can find what you need for a fraction of what you would spend in stores. The key word in that last sentence, though, was "need."

Just as I strongly discourage buying something that you have never used before just because you have a coupon for it, I also discourage taking advantage of great bargains at a garage sale on things that you do not need.

My number one rule for organization is you can only have as much stuff as you have room to store. Anything else just becomes clutter.

If you are bringing home a carload of stuff every time you go to a garage sale, my guess is that you are not limiting your purchases to true essentials.

The next time you go to a garage sale, try this...

When you find an item that you are tempted to buy, ask yourself..."Where will I put this when I bring it home?"

If you can answer yourself and assign that item a permanent home, buy it.

If you have no idea where you would put it or whether or not you even have room for it, put it down and walk away. You don't need it.

Don't get caught up in the bargains and wind up cluttering your home. You are being smart by bargain shopping at garage sales, as long as you are limiting your purchases to items that you truly need and not filling your car with great buys that you will never use.
