Organizing Circle Lesson Plans

by Darlene
(Canada)

I have a lot of circle lesson plans eg. apples, fall Thanksgiving, shapes, etc. My place is getting cluttered at home. How do I organize these themes, alphabetically or monthly.

How do I decide how many pieces I should keep for eg. I have to do 5 days of each theme? I am baffled.

Please help me Thanks.

Organizing Lesson Plans
by: Tracy

Darlene, here is what I would do if I were you:

Place each lesson plan into a file folder with a tab. Write the name of the lesson plan on the tab.

If the lesson plans include craft materials for making a project to go with the lesson, put the project materials into zip close bags - one bag for each material. Then put all of the zip bags into a large manila envelope with a fastener to keep it closed.

Sort the lesson plans by season: winter, spring, summer and fall. Then, within each season, put the file folders into alphabetical order.

Get yourself four plastic file boxed with handles - the kind that you would normally use to store household bills or other important documents. Label the outside of each file box with the appropriate season.

Place the file folders, in alphabetic order, into the file box for that season.

Place the file boxes on a shelf or in a closet, out of sight, but easily accessible. Only keep out the box for the current season. Keep all of the rest in storage.

When one season is over, put that box back onto the shelf and get out the box for the next season.

Make yourself a schedule for doing these lessons with your children. Write down which lessons you want to do and when you want to do them.

Each time you are ready for a new lesson, consult your schedule to see which one you will be doing, go to your box and pull out that folder - which will be very easy to find by name because everything will be in alphabetic order.

When you are done with a lesson, be sure that all materials are put away so they will be there the next time you need them.
