How to Organize a Bathroom

Learn how to organize a bathroom and make the task of keeping it clean even easier. A bathroom is one of the rooms in your home that is high on the priority list for cleanliness.

In order to clean a room, you must first move the clutter out of your way. Keep your bathroom clutter free and organized at all times and you will cut your cleaning time in half.

How to Organize a Bathroom

Step One

Remove everything from your bathroom. This includes emptying medicine cabinets, vanity cabinets, drawers and closets. If there are any items that need to be moved to Clutter Central, put them there.

Step Two

Give your bathroom a thorough cleaning:

  • Wash the inside of medicine cabinets, vanity cabinets, drawers and closets.
  • Scrub the toilet bowl, sink, counter, and shower/tub.
  • Wash the shower curtain or clean glass tub doors.
  • Scrub the tile on the walls inside the shower/tub stall and don't forget to clean the shower head and faucet.
  • Place window curtains in the dryer to remove dust.
  • Wash the floor.

Step Three

Begin to bring items back into the bathroom. Determine how to organize a bathroom by thinking about your daily routine. Use these guidelines.

    Medicine Cabinet

Reserving the medicine cabinet for items that are used on a daily basis will help to keep it organized. It is a much better idea to put all of those tubes and bottles of pain relievers, prescription medications and other infrequently used treatments in an easy to grab plastic tote with a handle which can be placed inside a closet. It will still be easy to get to when necessary but out of the way of your daily routine. Be sure to check the expiration date on all medications before placing them in the tote. Throw away any that are expired.

    The Vanity

The vanity cabinet is perfect for larger items that are used frequently. Hairbrushes, curling irons and blow dryers fit nicely into most vanity drawers. While the cabinets are perfect for extra towels and supplies or to keep your wastebasket out of sight. Be sure to examine the need for each item before you place it back into the vanity. If you do not use it daily, perhaps it belongs in a closet. If you do not use it at all, it belongs in Clutter Central.

    The Linen Closet

If you are fortunate enough to have a linen closet in or near your bathroom, storage should never be an issue. Everything you need can be stored in a linen closet. Fold towels neatly on one shelf. Place supplies such as extra toilet paper and facial tissues on another and use plastic totes to contain medicines, make-up and cleansers. You can easily grab the tote that contains the items you need and when you are done, the tote can go back into the closet to keep your bathroom organized.

How to Organize a Bathroom
by Keeping it Well Stocked

Keep all of the bathrooms in your home well stocked. Determine the use of the bathroom and keep it filled with the items required. It is much easier to replace used supplies with fresh ones if the supplies are right there in the room and easy to grab.

Half baths may only require a supply of toilet tissue, facial tissue and hand soap, while a full bath will also require shampoo, conditioner, bath towels, washcloths and other toiletries used in your daily routine.

Now that you have learned how to organize a bathroom, it will be much easier and less time-consuming to clean.
