How to Cook Turkey Burgers
Are you wondering how to cook turkey burgers so they have just as much flavor as your favorite hamburger?
Turkey burgers are so much leaner and healthier than burgers made from ground beef, but many people think that they are dry and lack flavor. Well I am here to tell you that it doesn't have to be that way.
This recipe for BBQ Turkey Burgers will change your mind and show you that you can have a healthy alternative to a hamburger that tastes good too.
Turkey Burgers
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground turkey
- salt & pepper, to taste
- ½ tsp. dried sage
- ½ tsp. dried thyme
- ½ tsp dried marjoram
- ¼ cup barbecue sauce
- whole wheat buns
Directions:
Preheat your indoor or outdoor grill. For a gas grill use medium-high heat.
Put the ground turkey in a large mixing bowl and season with salt & pepper. Add the herbs and barbecue sauce and mix well to combine. It is best to use your hands. Separate the meat into 4 equal sections (to make 4 quarter pound burgers. If you like your burgers smaller, simply separate the meat into a larger number of equal sections).
Roll each section into a ball in the palms of your hands and then flatten into a patty. Be sure to flatten the patty well as it will shrink a little on the grill. If the patty is not flat enough you will wind up with an almost ball-shaped burger and it will not cook evenly. The patty will seem to have too large a diameter when you flatten it well, but it will shrink on the grill and it will fit perfectly onto a bun.
Cook your patties according to your taste and serve on whole wheat buns for a much healthier alternative to the hamburger. Top your turkey burger with any of your favorite burger toppings. I love a few slices of avocado on mine!
