How to Control Messiness

by Anne

How do I remain tidy when I get busy?

I have great systems that actually work well when I am on an even keel BUT when I get busy, every surface looks like a crash zone in about 12 hours. Any practical ideas would be very much appreciated.

How to Control The Messiness When Life Gets Busy
by: Tracy

This is an excellent question! It's easier for all of us to stay organized and control the clutter when we can move at a more relaxed pace, but how do you keep it under control when you are so busy that there just are not enough hours in the day?

The answer is easy. You've got to have a foundation of organization.

When people ask me if my home is always neat and tidy with nothing out of place I proudly answer "No. It's not."

I have a child and a dog. Sometimes there is dog hair on the floor that I just haven't gotten around to sweeping up. Sometimes there are toys on my living room floor.

We all have busy times and we all have days when we just can't get it all done. Things are going to get out of place, especially during the busy times.

The difference is that if you have an underlying foundation of organization...a system, so to speak...you will be able to whip your home back into shape in no time. If you know exactly where everything goes, you can put it all away in a matter of minutes.

That is a big difference from those that don't even have a system. They will spend much more time trying to straighten up after a busy spell because they will first need to figure out where they heck they are going to put everything. If you already know, you are one step ahead of the game!

So, what I would suggest to you is not to spend too much time worrying about the times when things get out of place. It is bound to happen.

Instead, spend your time making sure that your foundation is solid so you can clean up the aftermath with ease.
