Hot Cross Buns
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
- ¾ cup raisins
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 2 Tblsp. melted butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 4 tsp milk
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 baking dish.
Soak the raisins in warm water for 5 minutes to plump them up. Drain well. In a bowl, combine the sugar and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon with the raisins. Set aside.
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to an 8 x 10 inch rectangle. Spread the cinnamon/sugar mixture evenly over the dough. Form the dough into a ball and knead thoroughly. Separate the dough into 12 equal portions.
Place the buns into the baking dish and score each one with a cross on top. Brush each bun with melted butter. Cover and let sit at room temperature until they have doubled in size.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Meanwhile, combine the powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and milk to create the icing. Drizzle the icing evenly over the buns. If you want to avoid the icing running too much, let the buns cool slightly before drizzling.
