Help for Depression in Organization

by Helen

I am interested to know if there is any data that suggests that depression responds to organization. I fight clinical depression and someone told me that one tool to help is organization, such as charts. If you know of any documentation on this, can you please send me a link?

Break the Ties Between Disorganization and Depression NEW
by: Tracy

There is absolutely a connection between disorganization and depression and it can be a vicious cycle. If you are feeling depressed, you will not feel like doing anything...much less cleaning and organizing your house! If your house
is cluttered and disorganized, it can make you feel depressed. So how do you stop the cycle?

The first thing you have to do is recognize that it is going to be difficult. You will need to start with very small projects that will provide immediate satisfaction. The satisfaction that you feel when you step back and look at what you have accomplished will develop the motivation and enthusiasm you will need to move forward with future projects.

Do not try to take on too much...this will only lead to you becoming overwhelmed, throwing in the towel and then feeling depressed again. Even when you feel like you are ready to tackle a bigger project, set a timer and work in short bursts of time...15 minutes is good.

When the timer goes off, take a break. Even if you feel like you could keep working, take a break anyway. It will keep your mind feeling fresh and prevent you from becoming overwhelmed.

For more information and some great ideas for projects to help fight depression, you might want to read this article that I wrote which is published at ezinearticles.com...Disorganization and Depression - Break the Ties That Bind.

Been There NEW
by: Pam

So true. I also suffer from clinical depression and have to make lists. Have to! Years ago my psychiatrist said to list 1 thing to accomplish in a day. That's all. One thing.

My first step was to get dressed and take a walk for half an hour. I was pretty bad..........

Limit your projects to easy tasks that will make you feel good to accomplish. Scrubbing down a shower is always a good one. Watering plants. Matching your socks.

Good luck and make those lists! Just make sure the list making doesn't begin to overwhelm.
