Energy Conservation Save the Environment and Your Bank Account
There are many benefits to energy conservation. Not only does it help to save the environment for ourselves and our children but it can also help to save money.
Conserving energy does not have to be difficult either. All it takes is a little thought and a small amount of effort to change your habits.
Here are some things to consider:
Conserve Energy in Your Home
Only turn on lights when you need them. Always turn lights off when you leave a room.
Switch to energy efficient light bulbs wherever possible. They use energy more efficiently than incandescent bulbs and they last a lot longer. Use this tool to calculate your potential savings.
When doing laundry, only wash in hot water if absolutely necessary. Hot water washes require more energy than cold or warm water washes.
Put your heating and cooling system on a timer, if possible. Otherwise, adjust your thermostat manually. You should increase the cool setting or decrease the heat setting when you are going to be gone from the house and while you are sleeping.
If your home is drafty, take steps to block the air flow. Place towels on the floor in front of doors or on windowsills. Cover windows with plastic draft blockers that can purchased at any home goods store.
Conserve Energy in Your Car
Fueling your car is expensive and we would all like to save money on gas. There are some very simple and common sense things you can do to cut down on your fuel consumption:
Don't drive unless it is absolutely necessary. If you can walk or ride a bicycle opt for one of these more environmentally-friendly modes of transportation.
If you must drive, make the best use of your time on the road. Combine some errands with your trip to save gas and time.
Make note of the prices at the gas stations you regularly pass. Try to plan your fuel stops when you will be near a low-cost station.
