Organize Your Clutter
Free Your Mind

Streamline and Simplify!

Make this your personal mantra.

Realize that clutter can be both physical and mental.

The first step to a life of enjoyment is to change the way you think.

Once you have cleared you mind, it will be so much easier to clear your space.

Let's talk.

Mental Clutter. Organize Your Mind

When you waste time worrying about unimportant things you lose out on life. Here are some tricks to help keep you focused.

  • Decide what is important to you. Make a list of your priorities in life. List the items in order of their importance to you. Post the list where you can see it daily. Spend more time worrying about the items at the top of the list and less time on the things at the bottom.
  • Remember your priorities. If you think playing with your kids is more important than mopping the floor (and you should!) go for it. The dirt on the floor will still be there when you get back.
  • Ask yourself this question: Will it matter a year from now? If the answer is yes than give yourself permission to worry about it. If the answer is no, it is mental clutter - don't waste time on it.
  • Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right. Mind over matter is a powerful tool. Use it to accomplish your goals. Think you can!

Elimating mental clutter is the first step to a happier you!

Physical Clutter. Organize Your Space

When it comes to physical clutter, less really is more! The less you have to clean and organize, the more time you have to enjoy yourself.

Use the methods of organizing your mind to decide what items truly hold value - these are the keepers. The rest is just in the way.

  • Clothing. If you are a clothes horse, ask yourself this question: Have I worn this in the past year? If the answer is no get rid of it!
  • Collections. If you are a collector and every friend and family member knows it, chances are you have more unicorn figurines than you know what to do with. This can cause a real problem when it comes time to dust the shelves! Choose your top 10 and get rid of the rest. Instead of placing your favorites in one spot, spread them out around your house so they will bring a smile to your face no matter which room you are in.
  • Pack Rat. Are you hanging on to every scrap of paper that enters your home because you might need it some day? If you are, you're a pack rat. Pick a space, whether it be a room, a closet or a plastic storage container. That's it. That's all the space you have for the things you want to save. When you are out of space, you are out of luck.

If you don't know what to do with the items you need to purge, you can always have a garage sale.

However, if helping somebody in need would make it easier for you to part with your clutter, donate it. Many charities will come right to your door. In addition to helping the needy and clearing your space (which is going to save you tons of cleaning time), you would also get a huge tax benefit.

Check out this IRS Publication on determining the value of charitable contributions. You might just be surprised. I know I was!

Remember that when you clear your space and your mind you are making it easier to enjoy your life!
