Christmas Gift List

Christmas Gift ListOrganizing your Christmas shopping starts with creating a Christmas Gift List.

Without a list you will not know who are shopping for, what you are shopping for, or whether or not you are sticking within your budget.

So how do you do it?

Create Your List

The best time to start your gift list is in October. As soon as you have all of your Halloween planning complete, turn your attention to Christmas.

Write down the names of every person you will be purchasing a gift for. Don't forget friends, neighbors, co-workers, teachers and any charities that you provide gifts for. Make your list as thorough as possible.

Next, take precautions to stay within your holiday budget by writing down the amount of money you would like to spend on each person on your list. As you purchase gifts, write down the actual amount of money you have spent. You will be able to see at-a-glance whether or not you are sticking to your budget.

As you think of a gift ideas for each person on your list, write them down. Once your list is complete, the only thing left to do is shop. Set a target date for completing your Christmas shopping. I usually like to have my shopping done by Thanksgiving. That way I can enjoy the entire holiday season without having to spend time in a crowded shopping mall.

Start Shopping

Starting early also allows you time to really think about what you want to purchase for each person on your gift list, avoiding that last-minute, rushed trip to the store where you wind up buying the first thing you see because you have run out of time. Shopping early allows you to make each gift more meaningful.

Keep your list with you at all times so if you make an impromptu stop at a store you will be prepared to pick up a few Christmas gifts while you are there.

Don't forget about internet shopping. Many online stores offer free shipping during the holidays. Even if you don't purchase an item online, the internet is a wonderful way research and comparison shop. If you shop for family or friends who live far away, the internet is the perfect solution. You can shop, gift wrap and ship all with the click of your mouse.

As you purchase gifts check them off the list so you will always know exactly how much you have accomplished and what you have left to do.

Reap the Rewards of Your Organization

Create your Christmas gift list, set target dates to keep you on track and record prices to be sure you stay within your budget.

How much more organized can your Christmas shopping be?

You'll be sipping hot cocoa on the couch with a smile on your face while others are battling for that last parking space at the mall.
