The Best Childrens Books

Finding the best childrens books to share with your kids is such an important part of your child's development. Studies have shown that you should be reading to your children even when they are still babies.

Babies begin the first steps of learning to read from the day they are born. Every time you speak to your baby he or she is learning to recognize the sounds you are making. Soon this turns into word recognition.

When you read to your baby, take the time to point to the pictures in the book and use words to identify what the picture is. You are now teaching your baby that words have meaning. Your baby will begin to associate pictures with the words. Spend time reading to your baby every day.

As your baby progresses into the toddler years you should introduce interactive books that will spark their interests. Touch & feel books and lift the flap books are great choices. It is also a good idea to give your young toddler board books which will stand up to rough handling while they learn how to care for books.

Helping a child discover how fun and exciting books can be will help to build a solid foundation for a love of reading.

Great Interactive Books for Young Toddlers
Your toddler will love to feel the web that this busy spider spins as you read this wonderful story. The Very Busy Spider is a wonderful book for your child's early years.
Spot is an adorable character in children's literature and he always has a valuable lesson to share. Your child will have fun lifting the flaps and help Spot's mother find him.
This has been one of the best childrens books for years. Let your baby hold the bunny while you read the story and touch and feel your way through this classic.
Let your fingers do the wiggling as you read this book which includes finger puppets to help bring the story to life.

Finding the best childrens books for your child will become more exciting as your child grows and develops his or her own personal tastes.

Bring your child to the local library. Let them get their very own library card and explain to your child how special this card is because it opens up a whole big world of books available for them to explore.

Whatever their interests, you can find a book about it and then they can choose the best childrens books for themselves. Here are some of my son's favorites. Maybe your child will like them too.

Ethan's Picks
This is a very cute book with very few words so your child can use their imagination to make up the story based on the pictures.
If your child is ready for chapter books, you have to get the Junie B. Jones series. Junie B. Jones is the most adorable and hilarious character I have ever read. These books are so funny, there have been times I have had to stop reading because I was laughing so hard!
Being the dinosaur fanatic that he is, my son really enjoys this book. The pictures are bright and colorful and the story is very cute. I also appreciate the fact that all of the dinosaur names are spelled phonetically or I would never be able to pronounce some of them!
This is a great story that follows the same rhythm as "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly." It is fun to read together but it is also a great book for kids who are new to reading all by themselves.

While you are at the library or book store, don't forget to pick up a book for yourself and lead by example. If your child sees how much you enjoy reading chances are they will enjoy it for themselves.

Most children will be reading independently by the age of 7. With your help and encouragement your child can become a reader with ease. When your child is reading on his own the best childrens books will be those that contain short words which are easy to pronounce and only a few sentences per page.

Make sure you ask your child to summarize the story for you. It is important that your child is not only reading the words, but also understanding the story.

Studies have shown that children who learn to read early can actually prevent learning difficulties that they would have otherwise faced. Make reading an important part of your daily routine.

It doesn't matter what books you choose, the important thing is to spend time reading with your child. The best childrens books are the ones that spark your child's interests.

Encourage your children to read and put the world at their fingertips.
