Organization Tip

It's time to start thinking ahead to summer. You have probably already begun getting your yard cleaned up, pulling out the patio furniture, planning your gardens and making that shift toward outdoor living.

Have you taken the time to think about turning on the Air Conditioning? Is your AC unit properly maintained? Is it due for service? Do you have somebody that you trust to give you an honest estimate? If not, you need Angie's List - Where thousands of consumers share their ratings on the local contractors and service companies they hire. Learn more.

Properly maintining your Air Conditioning unit can save you hundreds of dollars in energy costs by making sure that your unit is running as efficiently as possible. It will also save you money since you will be able to avoid unexpected repairs. Not to mention that it will give you peace of mind knowing that you will not have to live without relief in the middle of a summer heat wave!

Money Saving Tip

This month, I asked the owner of the website Wealth-Steps.com for his single most important piece of advice for saving money and building wealth. This is what he had to say…

If there is one money saving tip that can have the biggest impact on your net worth it is: Pay Yourself First.

This means that when you receive any income the first thing you are going to do is save or invest a piece of that income, before you have a chance to spend it.

Although this money saving tip is proven to work, there are few people that actually do it. If you are one of them you need to figure out why you are not doing it.

Is it because you don’t make enough money and/or spend too much? Regardless of how much money you make you have to live within that income, period. Therefore you have to make your expenses match your income. For some this will mean distinguishing between necessities and luxuries and cutting out overspending. For others, the cold hard truth is that you might have to both raise your income (second job, garage sale, better job) and reduce your expenses (less expensive house, car, cancel the cell phone, etc.).

In either case paying yourself first should be treated as "another bill" and your budget has to allocate money for this bill.

Is it because you have not made it easy on yourself? For this money saving tip to work it is best to make it automatic.

Sign up for your company’s 401k program and find out if your contribution can be automatically deducted from your paycheck. If not, choose a bank or investment firm that offers automatic drafts from your bank account at a set interval.

Paying yourself first is one money-saving tip that can be done by anybody regardless of the amount. It can be as little as $50 per month. By creating the habit, increasing it as you go along and being consistent over time you can change your financial future.
